Modi’s sub-nationalistic appeal challenges the very tenets on which the unity of India is based.

Well said. Modi needs a bravery award. For he has the daring to divide the nation by the whims of narrow regionalism.

Maybe we are panicking too early. Let us not forget that it is the great Indian democracy which has thrown up Modi.
We should have faith in the resilience of Indian democracy. It is not something imposed from above. It has been an integral feature of the Indian civilization since the dawn of time.
If it has spawned Modi , it will spare us from his extreme side. Let us trust it.

Nobody has questioned the strength of Indian democracy but has it empowered a Modi so much that he has the cheek to say that Gujarat can do without rest of India.
This is implied from what he says about Gujarat not be given any money by the central government and in return no taxes be collected from the state.

Modi’s secessionist statement amounts to challenging the sovereignty of the Indian Union over Gujarat. This should be taken with due seriousness and his government be dismissed for its divisive tendency. It is sad that his party bosses, who claim to be upholding nationalism in the country, have been endorsing his credulous outbursts with audacity.

General elections are round the corner. Even Modi knows that.
The brouhaha over no money from the Centre for Gujarat is nothing but a gimmick to shore up his political stock nationally.
Modi definitely has national ambitions.
